These are general descriptions, only. Because rides change, weather changes, the group of people
participating in the rides changes, etc, we do not to list a pace in mph
for rides. We feel it is somewhat meaningless. Our best advice is to call
the leaders of the rides you are interested in and inquire about the
typical group and speed, etc. if you are uncertain whether it's right for you.
ATB All Terrain Bike or mountain bike event, very strenuous to
strenuous; cannot be done on a road bike. Don't even think of riding
off-road without a helmet.
Beginner rides are designed for the beginner rider. Distance is short and
the pace is slow. No one will be left behind.
Easy rides are for the casual or infrequent rider. Distance is generally
less than 10 miles with few hills and pace is slow. Ride leader explains
map, ride procedure and safety. Leader sets pace for slower riders.
Moderate rides are generally from 10 to 30 miles with possibly a few hills
and pace is optional. Ride leader may set a faster pace than for EASY
rides.
These rides require more experience and better conditioning than Easy or
Moderate rides. Distance is 30 to 60 miles. Be prepared for any type of
terrain, weather or road conditions. Pace is optional.
Strenuous rides require more experience and better conditioning than
EASY or MODERATE rides. Distance is 30-60 miles or greater. Be prepared for any
type of terrain, weather, or road conditions. Pace is optional.
Training rides are extremely fast-paced for competitive riders.
The Southern Bicycle League recommends the use of a CSPC-approved
helmet. Rides require helmets of all participants.
