The Athens (GA) Downtown Development Authority has begun a pilot program to put bike parking in the downtown parking deck on College Ave. As a start, three new racks are now available for use. One is near the gate on the College Avenue side, and the other is near the Washington Street exit gate.
These are not your typical bike racks, as they include a locker that can secure a helmet and other personal items. The racks covered, out of the rain and the elements. The locker and your bike can be secured with a U-Lock. For now they are open for anyone to use, although a “lease/reservation” program for individuals needing bike parking on a regular basis is a future possibility.
The Athens Downtown Development Authority would appreciate hearing from cyclists and getting their comments on the usability, convenience, and placement of these racks. It is possible that more racks will be added in the future. Please send your comments and suggestions to Art Jackson (art@athensdda.org) at Athens Downtown Development Authority.
