Can anyone give me some stats on Burnt Mountain? Distance, grade, etc? I read where someone said it was a slightly easier version of Neels gap and another said there were sections at 20%. Maybe it depends on which direction you ascend. Does anyone know? |

Hi therider:
I don't know exactly what the grades are but here is the link to the Garmin profile of the race that I've done in May that went over the Burnt Mountain.
http://connect.garmin.com/activity/35256488
It will give you the elevation profile and you can hover over the elevation diagram with a mouse to see what the altitude is at any point. You can also click the "player" link on the right side of the screen and it will take you to the player where you can have the little "dot" run around the route and you can pause it at any time and see what the elevation and distance was at that spot.
Hope this helps.
From my personal experience it felt shorter than Neels but maybe a little steeper at times - but definitely not 20% - at least not the route wee took... |

Thanks. I was mainly asking because of a century ride this past weekend that went over Burnt Mountain. I decided to not do the century due to the heat. But this is good info to know for the next time! |

I did the century sunday and I did the Alpharetta century back in Nov, The approach used sunday seemed easier than the one used for the Alpharetta ride. The ride up Burnt was not so bad sunday but by time you hit what was called "The Lollipop" the heat wore me down. I did the BRAG century the day before and between te two |

The east side is the easiest. It's about 5 miles and no really steep sections. The west side (from Jasper) is 11 miles long and is medium-difficult. The north side (Sunrise Ridge) is 5 miles and is very tough.
Climbing all 3 sides of Burnt Mtn is harder (and longer) than riding Neels/Wolfpen/Woody. |
