Cris:
You and your squeegie crew did an OUTSTANDING job on the tunnel. A group of us were there Wednesday and were absolutely amazed. The work at both ends of the tunnel is also testament to the hard work and dedication that you guys deserve, and should NOT go unthanked or unappreciated!
For those of you who don't know, Cris had taken on the task of cleaning the muck and mire out of the Silver Comet tunnel. The water and mud had accumulated, and was to the point of being several inches deep, making the tunnel not only messy, but hazardous as well. Soon, it would've been unpassable. The county, for some reason, did not seem to care. Turning off the water fountains at the rest areas didn't fix the problem!
Thank you Cris, not only from me, but the group of riders that ooooh'd & aaaaaah'd your efforts!

Thanks guys.
For reference, this is what it looked like when we started..
and this photo was taken after they had removed the four piles of mud we had accumulated against the north wall.
Considering, I started the Paulding SCT mud/muck clean-up with my daughter Tiffany helping me at the 16mm marker (just past the treatment plant), it has come a long way. I just got fed-up with riding through the muck there and did something about it.
We had many good people helping at the tunnel, but Danny Ashley with GRITS has been hauling all of our gear up for us and deserves special recognition. The Polk County section of the trail is maintained by volunteers and they do a great job.
Spots we've cleaned up:
1) muck, water MM16 (west of the treatment plant)
2) mud, drainage at GA92 bridge
3) mud, drainage at GA61 bridge, several spots
4) sand at Mt Olivett underpass
5) standing water at Mc Pherson Ch, improved drainage at several area just past there
6) Brushy Mtn Tunnel
For those interested, I have photos on my BLOG site:

We are having another tunnel work day this Sunday 7/18:
