I'd like to ride from the North side (Buckhead, Sandy Springs, Vinings) to Rome, GA, on Friday evening or Saturday AM. I'd appreciate any suggestions for routes or partial routes. Extra points for avoiding Cobb Parkway! Any help from the Paulding, Polk and Cartersville folks?

Thanks,
Steve

There aren't too many places where you can get across the Etowah River now. Hardin Bridge was my favorite, but now gone. Several years ago you could ride US41, but they rumble stripped it.

There are many nice roads once you are North of the Etowah, so your second goal should be getting to Kingston. Your first goal should be getting to Marietta or Acworth.

Getting there from Marietta you could use a combination of the old Coffee and Bagel route combined with the current Brookstone route, but you can't use Harmony Grove Ch as the bridge is closed for construction. Some of these roads have serious traffic problems now too.

So... if you can get to to Acworth it's pretty easy. Take 293 to Emerson, continue on 293, crossing the Etowah, to a Lt at Old Mill Rd just before the very narrow RxR bridge. Then pickup the Cartersville Century route to Kingston. From there you can take several routes to Bell's Ferry that will take you into Rome. If you wanted some thing more challenging you could cut over at Third Army out of Acworth to Blackacre Tr, over Lead Mtn then pick-up Paga Mine to 293.

Maybe someone can help you with a route to Acworth?

I have roads that come in from the South, but with Harmony Grove Ch closed you have to come in from Dallas or the SCT. If you're interested in using the SCT to Coot's Lake there are several ways to get there.

Don't do it on Friday evening - unless you like getting hit.

EVEN DURING THE DAY USE A STRONG FLASHING FRONT & TAIL LIGHT and wear a high vis yellow/orange jersey.

On Sat. - Yes the route is on GA Highways but they may be safe because of shoulder/safety lanes.

1) take GA Hwy. 9/19 north to
2) GA HWY 92/140 north
3) Stay on Hwy 93 to
4) take Hwy 41 north to
5) take 411 west to Rome.

My prayers are with you,
Dick
